Overview
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and I have been working with and supporting youth and adults, both individually and in groups for over a decade. I have experience supporting clients struggling with a variety of mental health challenges including anxiety, ADHD, Autism, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, addictions, suicide and self-harm. I have a compassionate and optimistic disposition that fuels a nonjudgmental curiosity of human personality and behaviour. I am passionate about continuing education and developing my skills to more effectively support clients develop lasting change.
Education
I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Queen’s University in 2015 as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2020.
Experience
Since graduating from Queen’s University, I gained extensive experience in the child development field, supporting both youth and their caregivers with various types of mental health challenges where I discovered my passion for working with neurodivergent clients. I have a strong behavioural analysis background which I carry into my work as a psychotherapist. However, I continue to acknowledge that behaviour is simply one aspect of the human being and that behaviours are not typically the root of problem, it is what influences the behaviour that matters; the values, beliefs and needs that underlie behaviour.
Being an advocate of the biopsychosocial-spiritual approach, I believe it is essential to address every aspect of the individual including; biology, psychology, social life and spirituality. I am empathetic and supportive and employ an eclectic and holistic psychotherapeutic approach, mainly drawing from Emotion-Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I enjoy utilizing experiential and somatic learning techniques, including conscious awareness of your physical body and the sensations that arise with uncomfortable emotions and thoughts. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness approaches in my work with clients, based on their unique needs.
