Overview
I provide counselling services to individuals ages 16 and up, working from a strengths-based perspective. My aim is to offer empathetic counselling to support clients who would like help coping with emotional and personal difficulties, life transitions and challenging experiences. I primarily work with people dealing with anxiety, stress, illness, trauma, relationship issues and workplace challenges, including moral injury and burnout.
My appproaches include harm reduction, mindfulness, brief therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I believe that everyone deserves access to competent mental health services in a relaxed and professional atmosphere and I offer sliding fee scale as a commitment to providing affordable therapy. I also believe in a collaborative approach to counselling and will work with each client to create an individual treatment plan. I believe that sometimes we all need extra help to manage challenging life circumstances and to attain wellness, and that ultimately this makes us stronger.
Education
I have a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree and am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). My fees can be claimed under insurance policies that cover counselling with a Registered Social Worker with a MSW.
Experience
I have over 20 years experience working as a Social Worker with children, adults and families. My past experience includes crisis counselling, government services and programs for vulnerable children and youth, maternal and child health, and working in a military environment with civilians, CAF members, veterans and their families. I also specialize in working with breast cancer patients and their families, and supporting breast cancer survivors with return to work.
